The 2020 Presidential Election

As many know the next presidential election is coming up in the year 2020. Although it seems far away it will come faster than people think. That is why people need to start looking at the candidates. Even if you cannot vote it is still important to see who could possibly be our next president.

Many of the candidates are democrats, 18 to 3. The female democrats being Tulsi Gabbard, who wishes for opposition to American military intervention overseas, including in countries like Syria. Kamala Harris who unveiled middle-class tax cut legislation last fall, and has championed a liberal civil rights agenda in the Senate. Amy Klobuchar, who has championed legislation to combat the opioid crisis and drug addiction, and to address the cost of prescription drugs. Elizabeth Warren is all for Income inequality and what she sees as a middle class under attack from big corporations and political corruption and Marianne Williamson who has proposed $100 billion in reparations for slavery, with $10 billion to be distributed annually over a decade for economic and education projects. Some familiar democratic faces we are seeing are Bernie Sanders who wants, "Medicare for all," free college tuition and curtailing the influence of "the billionaires, Tom Steyer who also fighting climate change, and promoting renewable energy. Joe Biden jr. who was vice president during Obama's presidency and is now ready to take the next step in his political career. He believes in restoring America's standing on the global stage; strengthening economic protections for low-income workers in industries like manufacturing and fast food.

The rest of the democrats not as well known as the rest but still very important to pay attention to are Micheal Bennet who has called modernizing the economy in fields like artificial intelligence and for increased infrastructure spending.

Steven Bullock agrees that he wants to emphasize campaign finance reform, while also pushing early childhood education and other policies aimed at reducing economic inequality. Meanwhile, Pete Buttigieg has stressed his generational identity and focused on issues like climate change and economic opportunity along with Joe Sestak who is also seeking along with this to restore America's place in the world. Julian Castro has called for overhauling the immigration system, including decriminalizing border crossings, and education policies like universal pre-kindergarten. John Delaney has pitched himself as a bipartisan problem-solver but has also endorsed liberal causes like universal health care. A male, Wayne Messam has proposed canceling the more than $1.5 trillion in student debt owed by 44 million Americans. Deval Patrick as governor focused on economic development and innovation and made Massachusetts a hub for life science jobs. And or last Democrat, Andrew Yang, is establishing a universal basic income of $1,000 per month for all Americans.

There is only 3 Republicans running. First off Donald Trump. Hopefully many know that he is our current president. Many also have mixed feelings about him and he is currently in the process of impeachment. He wants to restrict immigration and building a wall at the Mexican border; renegotiating or canceling international deals on trade, arms control, and climate change; withdrawing American troops from overseas. Another republican being Joe Walsh who wants to reduce the national debt, restrain executive power, and secure the border. And the last republican, William Weld, who favors fiscal restraint, free trade, and moderate immigration reform; has endorsed steps to legalize marijuana. These are all the candidates and their signature issues who all have the possibility to be the next president of the united states. Even if you can't vote, who do you think is the best person to be president? Do you think Trump has a shot of being elected president for another four years or has his time come to an end?
