Keeping the Environment Safe
By: Samantha "Sami" Stenshorn
The environment should be something we keep safe, especially now. Over the years, pollution has become a huge problem.
Water pollution is when a harmful substance is put into the water which can end up killing the organisms that count on the water to survive. Sewage and garbage are often found in the water as a result of littering and pollution.
Another form of pollution includes pesticide which is used to destroy insects or other organisms that are usually taken out of the water in order to make it drinkable, If they're not removed from the water properly, the pesticides can cause damage to the nervous system or cause cancer because of the carbamates that they contain are harmful to humans if ingested. The best way to prevent this is to not put any harmful substance down the sink.
Land pollution is also a big deal, it hurts humans, animals, and the earth. To prevent this you can use products that are safe for the environment, such as BIKO which is a reusable straw this can help us not be so dependent on plastic items, you could also use the reusable coffee cups. It also helps to pick up after your animals. Pet waste contains the nutrients nitrogen and phosphorus when the pet waste is washed into local waterways during a storm, these nutrients have a detrimental effect on water quality, hurting local plants and animals. Always recycle anything that is recyclable that way no harm can come to us or anything else.
